HPDP Umang Festival 2017

Youth festivals refresh the minds of youngsters and provide an opportunity to them to showcase their talent. UMANG HPDP YOUTH FESTIVAL 2017 was held at New Delhi YMCA Campus from 1st to 3rd November 2017.

More than 1000 students from five institutes of New Delhi YMCA, Institute of Management Studies, Institute for Office Management, Institute for Fashion Technology and Design, Institute for Media Studies and Information Technology and Institute for Career Studies took part in HPDP UMANG 2017 Festival.

The campus came alive with joyous scenes as students, usually busy with special classes, study hours and examinations, were seen dancing and playing in the campus preparing for the festival.

President of New Delhi YMCA Mr Vijay Russel declared the Festival Open on 1st November which was followed by Lamp Lighting ceremony.  Chairman of HPDP Mr Stephen DaCosta in his opening address emphasised on the need for taking part in extra-curricular activities apart from studies for all round development.

 

President of New Delhi YMCA Mr Vijay Russel in his inaugural function address, recalled his student days and advised the students to set a goal and try to get into good positions as per the expectations of their parents. A huge round of applause from the students greeted his address.

After the opening ceremony at Heinz Auditorium, it was time for quizzing. Ten teams took part in the quiz competition.  After three rounds of quizzing Institute for Career studies won the quiz competition. Poster Making, Collage Making, Pot Painting, Rangoli competition was held at Education Centre on the first day of the Umang 2017 festival. More than 200 students took part in these competitions.

Debate competition was held at Heinz Auditorium in the afternoon on the opening day. More than 50 students from five institutes took part in the debate competition. The sporting events of the festival Cricket, Volleyball, Table Tennis and Carom had massive participation and fan following. Students in large numbers cheered their respective teams. Winning and losing was not important as students played the games in true sportsman spirit.

Singing competition was held at Heinz Auditorium on the second day, solo singing and group singing entertained and thrilled all the people present at the venue.

On the third day of the festival Western Dance and Folk Dance competition was held at Open Stage. The folk Dancers through their performances placed dance in a variety of cultural, artistic and historical context, while the Western Dancers entertained everyone with acrobatic moves.

The award distribution ceremony was held after the scintillating dance performances. Institute of Office Management won the Running Trophy and Vaishnavi Uniyal of the Institute for Fashion Technology and Design became the student of the year. As all things come to an end Umang 2017 Youth Festival came to an end. However the festival helped the students of all academic institutions come together and compete against each other. It promoted innovative ideas as students shared their knowledge with students from other streams. The competitive events helped the students to develop their overall personality.
