The New Delhi YMCA hosted the VIIIth National Women’s/Gender Assembly at Greater Noida Programme Centre (GNPC), New Delhi YMCA from 29th April to 1st May 2011 on the theme “Gender Parity : Pathway to a Common Humanity”. Over seventy delegates attended.
Mrs Sudharshan Pathak, Chairperson, Delhi Social Welfare Board was the Chief Guest at the Inaugural function. Mr K John Cherian, National President, National Council of YMCAs of India was the Guest of Honour alongwith Mr Vijay Sewak, President, New Delhi YMCA, Mr Vernon DeSouza, Chairman, GNPC, Mr John Varughese, National General Secretary, Dr Patharawan Srisilakanan, Chairperson, Gender Equity Committee, APAY.
Ms Razia Ismail Abbasi, Co-President, FINCUN moderated the Panel Discussion on the theme “Women Creating a Safe World”. The Panelists included : Ms Madhubala Nath, Regional Policy Advisor, South Asia Sub-Regional Office, UN Women, Dr Jytosna Chatterjee, Director & Secretary, Joint Women’s Forum, Dr Ann Thomas, Vice Chair, Gender Equity, Asia and Pacific Alliance of YMCAs and Chairperson, Women’s Empowerment and Gender Concerns Committee, NCY.
Presentations were made by : Ms Semeda Steves, Programme Manager, Christian Aid, Ms Nilakshi Rajkhowa, Department of Gender Equity (Department of External Affairs), National Spiritual Assembly of the Baha’is of India; Dr Binita Behera, Programme Officer – Advocacy, Christian AIDS/HIV National Alliance; Mr Vivek Aranha, Member, National Executive Committee, NCYI , President YMCA Pune and Chairman Western India Region of YMCAs; and Mr Christopher Bachman, General Secretary, YMCA Patna.
Over 70 delegates were attended the Gender Assembly.
